Simulation of ODE/PDE Models with MATLAB®, OCTAVE and SCILAB shows the reader how to exploit a fuller array of numerical methods for the analysis of complex scientific and engineering systems than is conventionally employed. The book is dedicated to numerical simulation of distributed parameter systems described by mixed systems of algebraic equations, ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs). Special attention is paid to the numerical method of lines (MOL), a popular approach to the solution of time-dependent PDEs, which proceeds in two basic steps: spatial discretization and time integration.

Alain Vande Wouwer and Laurent Dewasme were invited to a networking event on biotechnologies organized by the “Association des Ingénieurs de Mons” and GlaxoSmithKline Vaccines in Wavre on the 13th of March 2014. Laurent Dewasme had the pleasure to present the BioSys Center activities in biotechnologies through a talk entitled “Bioprocesses: from modeling to control”

wwtmoWTmod2014 is the fourth international seminar on wastewater treatment (WWT) modelling after successful events in 2008, 2010 and 2012. WWTmod provides a platform upon which any relevant aspect of WWT modeling may be scrutinized. The main objective of WWTmod is consensus building. The process of consensus building is supported by obtaining insights from a diverse group of leading professionals: researchers, consultants, utilities, regulators, manufacturers, and software developers

On the 11th of September, Laurent Dewasme was invited to the Process Net-Jahrestagung und 30. DECHEMA-Jahrestagung der Biotechnologen in Karlsruhe, Germany, to present a keynote which was entitled: “Advanced Control Strategies Applied to Bioprocesses: an Overview”.
